have you ever considered taking your own life?
I know there are a lot of reasons someone could desire to die. There’s a lot of pain and suffering in this world, maybe it seems like a relief or a release to move into the afterlife. Maybe you’ve been hurt and are angry with someone close to you, and it seems like a good way to have revenge on that person. Maybe you feel like the world would be a better place without you? No matter the reason, suicide is not the answer.
The answer is life.
I once heard a quote, “Suicide doesn’t take the pain away, it gives it to someone else.” The loss experienced by those you leave behind will be greater than any relief you could experience by ending your life. You may hurt the person you’re angry with, but what good does that do? You won’t be around to enjoy the fruit of your revenge. And I can assure you, the world won’t be better without you. God created you. It wasn’t an accident, and He didn’t make a mistake. He placed on you on this earth for a valuable purpose and He has a plan for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” The answer is not death - it’s LIFE. Living more life can only create new opportunities for change, relief, forgiveness, healing, and peace.
These terrible feelings you are experiencing could be the very thing God can use to mold you into a person who can make a difference, a person who can help others in their struggles, a person with a life changing story. There is a way out! Check out verse 12 of Jeremiah 29, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” God promises to always hear our prayers. Sometimes, it’s difficult. You may feel far from God, especially in the darkest of times you’re experiencing, but He’s there. Open your heart to Him, and He will answer you.
Do you know Him?
Just like your body needs to be fed in order to sustain and live, the same goes for ideas – they must be fed and fostered in order to take root in our hearts and minds. The idea of suicide must be fed in order to take a stronghold on your heart. Are you feeding death, or life? Try feeding the truth with the Word of God. Feed life with positive thoughts and love – for yourself, and for others. It all comes back to your relationship with God. Do you know Him? Do you respect Him as the all-knowing, all-ruling, all-powerful being that He is? Can you choose to reject the first gift God has given you – the gift of LIFE! Not to mention the second gift He gave, which is just as precious - REDEMPTION.
Will you choose to give up on yourself – when God has not given up on you?
Open yourself up to his plan. Why not give that a try, before you choose death? What do you have to lose? God’s love will never let you down. Will you choose to give up on yourself – when God has not given up on you? If the author of all life believes in you, in the good that can come from you, who are you to disagree?
All it takes is faith as small as a mustard seed (that’s tiny by the way, about the size of the period at the end of this sentence). Matthew 17:20 (NIV) says, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” God has given you every tool you need to fight and conquer the spirit of death at work in your life. Repent for taking your life into your own hands, and ask Him to fill you with a realization of who He is, and how much He loves you. After that, find someone you trust, and talk to them about your thoughts of suicide and death. You may be surprised to find out how much those around you love you, care for you, and want you to be whole and happy.
